Casa Alice is located in the heart of Monte Gruttas, a small hamlet in the territory of Castiadas which, with its 13 km of coastline and enchanting landscapes surrounded by greenery, represents one of the most picturesque municipalities in the historic region of Sarrabus . In fact, at the end of the 19th century, it became the seat of the Penal Colony, the largest agricultural penal structure in Italy, created with the aim of reclaiming a marshy and unhealthy area, utilising the work of prisoners who had to serve their sentences. The colony ceased its activity in the early 1950s when the Ente di Trasformazione Fondiaria e Agraria della Sardegna (ETFAS) - Land and Agricultural Transformation Authority of Sardinia - acquired the management of the territory by implementing the agrarian reform and assigning the farms derived from the expropriation to farmers in order to revitalise Sardinian agriculture. The original marble plaque hanging proudly on the wall identifies Casa Alice as “Podere n° 17 – San Ugo“. A farmhouse restored and furnished with passion by the owner who preserved its authenticity: light switches in refined porcelain, the original floors, an old wood-burning stove, furnishing purchased in Provence, the original internal staircase, a stable transformed into a prestigious wine cellar, all giving the property a retro soul and making it ideal for those looking for peace and quiet without sacrificing the style.
Interior:
Casa Alice consists of the main house and an annex about 10 m away. MAIN HOUSE. It consists of two floors connected internally. The main entrance leads to the kitchen with a wood-burning fireplace, furnished with unique vintage-style elements and with direct access to the beautiful veranda enclosed by folding glass doors facing the garden, with a large table, a wood-burning stove, a small sitting area with sofa and armchairs, a TV and a fireplace; communicating with the kitchen is a windowed bathroom with shower. The original 1950s staircase leads up to the first floor with two double bedrooms overlooking the garden and pool. ANNEX. Located in the garden at the back of the house, it consists of a double bedroom and ensuite bathroom with shower. Adjacent to the annex, with separate entrance, is the laundry room. Air conditioning in the bedrooms.

Casa Alice, with its 1000 sq m of enclosed garden, is immersed in a beautiful enchanted atmosphere in the quiet of the countryside; a well-kept lawn with fruit trees such as lemons, apricots and medlars while beautiful native holm oaks, olive trees and bushes of broom provide precious areas of shade; in the front part of the garden, facing the beautiful living area enclosed by folding glass doors, is a built-in barbecue, a wood-burning oven, a large bamboo sofa with cushions and a small decorative arch with climbing vines that contains a small table and two chairs. From this area it is possible to reach the swimming pool and the solarium. At the entrance is a large parking area in gravel with a wooden pergola.Please notice that photos are taken in spring, therefore flower blossoming, and the colours of the gardens' grass could be different at the moment of your arrival at the villa.
Swimming Pool:
The swimming pool is located on a terrace about 20 m from the house, at a lower level, and is reached across the garden. Rectangular and lined in PVC, it measures 4 x 6 m with the depth varying between 1.40 and 1.70 m. There is a removable steel ladder with 3 non-slip steps for access to the water and it has salt purification, heating and both internal and external lighting. Around the pool is the sunbathing area equipped with sunbeds and a hot-water shower, all surrounded by succulents and olive, peach and apricot trees. The pool is open from the last Saturday of April until the first Saturday of October.
Pets: Yes. € 50,00 per animal per week. Acceptance of animals to the facility must be previously authorized by the owner upon communication of the number of animals, size and breed.
